asola has developed automotive solar systems exclusively to meet the
unique requirements of the automotive industry:
1. Exacting quality requirements:
Automotive applications impose more stringent stipulations
and tighter tolerances in comparison with
other solar applications, requiring us to define technical details
related to curved module, optics and
interconnections.
Automotive quality assurance standards (ISO/TS
16949) require much higher diligence
compared to the standard practices in the solar industry. For
example, risk assessment techniques
such as failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) and advanced
product quality planning (APQP)
allows systematic risk reduction for mass production of systems
for the automotive industry.
2. The benefits for the customer comprise power use for ventilation
when parking, battery charging
and pre-air conditioning. This helps the onboard power supply
by reducing consumption.
3. Production and delivery are subject to the highest quality
standards.
- They undergo intensive design tests when developed
- Top-level quality assurance during production
- Just-in-time / just-in-sequence delivery
In a nutshell, a totally different philosophy is required.
